US President Barack Obama Arrives in India This Morning For Three-Day Visit

 January 25, 2015 07:59 IST

New Delhi:  US President Barack Obama, accompanied by wife Michelle, is on his way to India and is scheduled to land at 10 am today at the Air Force station, Palam.

The US President is coming to India on a three-day visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi; he will be the first US President to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

In a message to President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of Republic Day, President Obama said he and his wife Michelle were looking forward to the India visit and enjoying the "generosity, hospitality, and beauty that marked our last visit" in 2010.

"As we work to deepen the ties between our great democracies and advance our partnership for the 21st century, we will continue to do so on the basis of the democratic ideals contained in our constitutions," he said.

On his arrival, President Obama will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at about 12 noon at the Rashtrapati Bhawan by the President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi; he will then pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

President Obama will then join PM Modi for a working lunch at the Hyderabad House and participate in a "walk and talk" there, the White House said.

The two leaders will then have an expanded delegation level meeting, which is expected to last for about an hour. Later in the evening, President Obama is scheduled to meet US embassy personnel and their families. He will then attend the state banquet hosted by President Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

On January 26, President Obama will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations, held at Delhi's Rajpath. Later, the Obamas will attend an 'at home' reception hosted by President Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

In the afternoon, President Obama and PM Modi will participate in a CEO forum roundtable and address the US-India Business Summit.

On January 27, the US President will give an address at the Siri Fort Auditorium.

President Obama has cancelled his plans to visit the Taj Mahal; he is cutting short his visit to fly to Saudi Arabia following the death of King Abdullah. Saudi Arabia is a longstanding US ally and the world's leading oil exporter.

Mid-Term Elections and the Blue Dog Democrats

Of the 34 Democratic incumbents who voted no to health care reform, sixteen are projected to have lost their seats Tuesday while three are locked in races that are too close to call. Eleven Democratic congressman that voted against party lines when health care reform returned to the House floor on March 21, 2010 have retained their seats.

Of the remaining four, Artur Davis (AL-7) unsuccessfully ran for governor and Charlie Melancon (LA-3) lost his bid for U.S. Senate. But Marion Berry (AR-1), and John Tanner (TN-8) escaped election scrutiny and retired.

Those who lost Tuesday and voted against health care reform include: Congressmen John Adler (NJ-3), Michael Arcuri (NY-24), Rick Boucher (VA-9), Bobby Bright (AL-2), Travis Childers (MS-1), Lincoln Davis (TN-4), Chet Edwards (TX-17), Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin (SD-at-large), Frank Kratovil (MD-1), Jim Marshall (GA-8), Michael McMahon (NY-13), Glenn Nye (VA-2), Ike Skelton (MO-4), Zachary Space (OH-18), Gene Taylor (MS-4), and Harry Teague (NM-2).

Of the 34 who voted against health care reform, the eleven who won re-election Tuesday are: House Representatives Jason Altmire (PA-4), John Barrow (GA-12), Dan Boren (OK-2), Tim Holden (PA-17), Larry Kissell (NC-8), Daniel Lipinski (IL-3), Stephen Lynch (MA-9), Mike McIntyre (NC-7), Collin Peterson (MN-7), Mike Ross (AR-4), and Heath Shuler (NC-11).

Morocco Kicks al-Jazeera Out for Being Trouble Maker

Morocco bars al-Jazeera for 'unfair' coverageMorocco suspended activities of al-Jazeera on its territory after broadcasts 'seriously distorted' country's image

guardian.co.uk, Friday 29 October 2010 18.20 BST Article historyMorocco has suspended the activities of al-Jazeera on its territory for what it said was unfair reporting that had damaged the country's reputation.

The Moroccan communications ministry said it had noted several incidents in which the Qatar-based television station had violated journalistic standards for accuracy and objectivity.

It said al-Jazeera's broadcasts had "seriously distorted Morocco's image and manifestly damaged its interests, most notably its territorial integrity".

The station had shown a "determination to only broadcast from our country negative facts and phenomena in a deliberate effort to minimise Morocco's efforts in all aspects of development and to knowing belittle its achievements and progress on democracy," the ministry said.

Note: Al-jazeera deserve that and this stop of Morocco is long due. Al-Jazeera formented the break of Morocco itself and the lionization of the Amazigh issue in effort to break the country in two in a very irresponsible way. It attacked the censorship of movie depicting Moroocan women who were hijab in a very damaging light.

Aljazeera should know its boundary and what her determined coverage issue will bring

One may agree that Al-Jazeera broadcast was to ruin Morocco international image. Is this only sensational broadcasts?

The Eclipse of the American Power and Clout Throughout the World

With the collapse of communism, the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war long time ago the need of American leadership has been weaned. With ten years almost passed since 9/11 the sympathy to the US has withered through history and the end of the Iraq war and occupation pulled the US out of the scene in the daily news. Afghanistan war still there but undoubtedly in its final stages where the work in progress to train and establish local police force and army and leave.

What has caused the eclipse of the American and US power is the world becoming an economic machine. What moves the world now is the economic powers and forces of gravitation. To add to the acceleration of the American loss of dominant clout is that in this very becoming competitive world huge stellar economic powers like in China and the south east had become forces that can't be ignored. In south America the country of Brazil is becoming more and more economic powerhouse.

When America wants to exert its political will on other countries they are usually nullified by economic powers and interests of such countries that become the deciding factor.
So America needs to realize how the political world landscape and play the amazing economic football and have many home-runs as possible.

When I think of America’s failed financial policies, its weak political leadership and its feeble foreign policy I am reminded of an interesting Thai phrase: “Maa du khreuang bin tok.” Translated it means “A dog watching an airplane crash.” The phrase describes an event that is totally beyond the spectator’s comprehension.
I believe we are witnessing an historic eclipse of American power in the world. It has been ongoing for at least three decades, but it has accelerated dramatically in just the past couple of years. One might argue that the decline of U.S. power began with the nation’s ignominious withdrawal from Vietnam back in 1975–an event that I personally witnessed and experienced.

Do you seriously believe that China cares a whit about the U.S. economy? Or than Muslim nations such as Pakistan feel any allegiance to Washington’s political will?

We are becoming a nation of political wimps who are guided more by political correctness than correct political foreign policy. The idea that we can be everybody’s friend is a joke in a world where alliances are only important when they serve a nation’s economic and political self-interest. Does anybody really think that the imams and sheiks of the Middle East have any real affection for America? The same goes for nations like China, India and our closest neighbors–Canada and Mexico.

In his book, “The Much Too Promised Land,” Aaron David Mille tells of his years as a State Department official engaged in what is forlornly called the peace process. In his book he writes that in the Middle East today the United States finds itself “trapped in a region which it cannot fix and it cannot abandon,” where America is “not liked, not feared, and not respected.”

Is it any wonder that Muslims the world over despise a nation that has become narcissistic and hedonistic while growing more and more obsessed with sex, fame, wealth what passes these days as music.
Once, while traveling in Pakistan I was asked by a Muslim cleric why America allows women to be degraded, why it no longer esteems marriage and family and why it lavishes praise and wealth on entertainers, athletes and others who contribute little

The Democrats Running for Congress are they Running from Barack Obama?

It is extremely foolish for any Democrat running for the house or senate to shy away and distance him/her from Barack Obama. This is fool-hardy and will not buy them any thing, an iota.
Jack Conway is perfect example of bragging his running for himself and has nothing to do with Obama and his programs he is now much behind the Republican opponent Rand Paul in the Kentucky senatorial sweep stake.
